This breed is believed to be the oldest one in Europe. It is thought that the breed originally came from Malta. During some period of time, dogs of this breed were an essential accessoire of aristocratic ladies. Ancient Phoenician used these dogs to barter for goods. It is still uncertain who brought these animals to England. Minature maltese dogs can be obtained from a rescue.
